when do deals start coming out for things like free ipod with purchase of Macbook? And i know that there is a discount for all students that i can use whenever, but i hear they come out with better deals closer to summer?

ANSWER:
I've seen this happen 2008, 2007, and 2006. Apple does the buy a Mac get an iPod free (after rebate) promotion over the summer around July and August, ends in September. Last year you could choose a 3G Nano or a 1G iPod Touch. So in 2009 I would suspect a 4G Nano and 2G Touch would be the choices.Apple does this to clear out the old iPods paving the way for new iPod models (appearing around October).
I'd wait for the sale. Also, with an educational discount, you can save -100. That and a free iPod.

Macs can be picky about memory and plugging in RAM from your old laptop is unlikely to work. You don't have to buy RAM from Apple, but be sure to purchase from a Mac-specific RAM vendor that tests RAM with each type of Mac to be sure it is fully compatible.

Anyone know if Apple or its retailers offer Black Friday/Cyber Monday specials on the MacBook Pro?Best Buy is offering a free gift card with purchase, but that'll probably just be enough to reimburse me for tax. Not really a good deal.

Build quality, reliability, user friendly, the best tech support and it doesn't run Windows (unless you need it to). I'm not a Mac "fanboy"-I hate everything that pisses me off. I used a Windows desktop (brand doesn't matter-they all act the same) for 7 years and it was a constant fight. Defraging, buying & keeping up the antivirus software, spyware, adware, formatting, dealing with faulty hardware, constant crashes and "tail chasing", etc, etc, etc... I bought a MacBook and POOF-I haven't had to do any of that crap since. It might take a while to get used to OSX but once you do, you'll love it. People who say "you can't use any Windows programs on a Mac" are retarded. If there is a Windows-only program that you MUST run, you can always install XP or Vista and use it for that program (games). However, 90% of the time there is a Mac program for what you need that is better. Don't take my word for it-you & your parents will just have to see for yourselves. P.S. The one thing Windows is better for is games-the only thing. And that's only because everybody and their brother has Windows so it only makes sense to release games for that platform.

Hello hivoltag3,Usually free iPod offers come when they are getting rid of older iPod inventories (as well as older MacBook inventories) for when they bring out the future products. So if there's going to be a deal like this, it will be in a year or two. If you want a new iPod or a new MacBook Pro, just go out and buy one. You'll go crazy waiting for the next big thing.
