     Usually there are the Apple batteries (like the original one that came with the Macbook) and the non-Apple batteries. The Apple batteries will typically be of better quality, i.e. last longer on a charge, have more charge cycles, etc but it'll cost more. The non-Apple batteries will save you a fair bit but you won't get the same performance out of them.

     If $$ isn't a concern stick to the Apple batteries. However, it is eBay so be careful who you buy from. There's bound to be some sellers trying to pass non-Apple batteries as genuine Apple batteries.

   can i get a free replacement macbook battery ?
   i have hade my macbook since christmas 08 and ever since i got it the battery life has lasted about 2 hours and 30 miniutes and its supposed to last about 9 hours.

   also the bottom left of the macbook is starting to crack and peel off.

   i have took out a insurance on the macbook so can i get both of these problems fixed for free.

   its also still in warranty.

     well that depends, not just because you think it needs replacement it does...I have a macbook air and the battery is supposed to last 4-5 hours, it does 1-2 but because I am always running several programs at the same time. I am also listening to music or online radio...If once you take it to have it serviced, they decide it needs a battery replacement, they will replace it, it is in the warranty (basic warranty, if its Apple care protection , it is included as well!)

     They will run a tool for detecting failures, and also make sure it has recent patches or fixes that sometimes Apple releases to have this taken care of.
