Why won't my Macbook (Model: A1181) let me play a Region 2 DVD?
After I insert a Region 2 DVD (which opens the DVD Player application), the "Drive Region" dialog prompts me to change the region. I can choose "2" from the drop-down menu, but the "Set Drive Region" button isn't highlighted and thus, I cannot apply this region change. What's wrong here? The DVD? The DVD Player application? My Macbook? I'd like to figure this out before entertaining the thought of downloading/purchasing extra software.(***This was the first time I tried to play a non-Region 1 DVD, and I am the one and only laptop owner***)

Unfortunately there is no *legal* way around this.Either Apple preset the region on your MacBook or you set it yourself when you first played a DVD on it. But once the region has been set (or in some cases, set a certain number of times), it will not allow you to normally change it.
The reason behind this is that DVDs are encrypted based on the locations they're sold to. This is done by the companies that produce them to prevent people from importing movies from other locations and as such hurting local sales of the product (they might price things differently for different countries for instance).
As I said, unfortunately there is no legal way around this. Any attempt to circumvent this block would be considered by the government as a violation of the DMCA (Digital Millennium Copyright Act) and thus would be a crime.
While I do not agree with this particular aspect of law, it does prevent me from legally telling you how to bypass this.
